A diary (1862-1863) written while he was serving in Company E, 18th Michigan Infantry. He describes a soldier's life in camps outside Lexington and Nashville. His principal duties were to guard prisoners of war and to stand sentry duty. He records arrests made, writes of progress of the Union army and activities of the Union League in Nashville. He was taken prisoner at Athens, Ala., and killed in the explosion of the steamer Sultana after his release from prison. Millspaugh was from Tecumseh, Mich.
