Moulton, Charles Henry, 1835?-1916.
Seventy-six letters written to his sister (1861-1865). He tells of his experiences in Company B, 6th Michigan Infantry, in the Mississippi campaign. He speaks of the attitude of the people at Baltimore and New Orleans towards the occupying troops, and of his own attitude towards the Negroes. He criticizes the conduct of the war, Generals Lockwood and Thomas Williams, and mentions Generals McClellan, Butler, and Banks, "The Father of the Nine Months Men." He describes Ship Island, the bombardment of Forts Jackson and St. Philip, the siege of Port Hudson,guerrilla warfare on the Mississippi, and a march through a cypress swamp tearing up railroads and bridges. Moulton, from St. Joseph, Mich., rose from corporal to captain.
