Typescripts of fourteen letters (1861-1865) written to his parents. They are "I am well and hope you are the same" type of letters, but do tell briefly of a skirmish at Blackburn Ford, a box from home and Christmas dinner, and recreational activities at St. Clair, Mich., where the regiment was on guard along the Detroit and St. Clair rivers against a possible Confederate raid from Canada. Sadler, from Lenawee County, Mich., enlisted in Company G, 4th Michigan Infantry in June, 1861 and mustered out in June, 1864. He then enlisted in Company I, 30th Michigan Infantry, as sergeant, in Nov., 1864.
