Thomas was a Quaker abolitionist and physician in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, and Schoolcraft, Mich. His papers contain three letters (Jan. 12, 1862, Dec. 12, 1862, and Jan. 29, 1863) of S. B. Thayer, medical director of the Merrill Horse Regiment, written from Missouri.
