Comstock served in the 17th Michigan Infantry. The collection contains one letter (Jan. 8, 1864), written by Charles D. Todd, from near Blaines Cross Roads, Tenn., in which he says that the body of Lieutenant Colonel Lorin L. Comstock is being sent home to his wife in Adrian, Todd was then first lieutenant in Company F, 17th Michigan Infantry, was wounded in action nears Petersburg, July 26, 1864, and was made brevet captain for gallant and meritorious services in the campaign before Richmond.
